Mercedes-AMG’s new boss has a Porsche connection
Mercedes-AMG has appointed Dr. Stefan Weckbach as its new CEO, effective July 1, 2026. He replaces Michael Scheibe, who will become Member of the Board of Management for Production, Quality & Supply Chain Management.
Weckbach will be the new Chairman of the Management Board and will also be in charge of the Top End Vehicle Group, which includes Maybach and G-Class models.

Stefan Weckbach is a former Porsche guy who began his career with the brand in 2008. He has led the development of several models, including the Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne and even the Taycan EV. In 2022, Weckbach became the head of the Mission X project – the successor to the 918 Spyder hypercar.
Jörg Burzer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, responsible for Development & Procurement and Chief Technology Officer, said, “[Weckbach] combines deep product knowledge with strong strategic capabilities and brings exceptionally broad experience in developing and shaping the performance and luxury segments. He has consistently demonstrated his ability to advance corporate and product projects with ease, as well as driving forward complex vehicle programs. This combination makes him the ideal choice.”
